 There is no pay for this production and the theater requires a cast fee that goes towards production costs. Cast Fees are: $125 up through 16 yrs, $75 (ages 17-20 yrs) and $55 (21+) as well as a $30 Gala Fee PER FAMILY not individual for Opening and Closing celebrations. Cast Fees are to be paid at the time of the audition and ALL REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE CONFLICTS MUST BE GIVEN AT THE TIME OF AUDITIONS. NO ADDITIONAL CONFLICTS WILL BE TAKEN.

We are so excited to be putting on Seussical The Musical this summer at Musical Theatre Village! Perfect for the entire family, Suessical is one of the most welcoming, ensemble driven shows, with roles for all ages, vibrant music and plenty of opportunities to shine. Seussical is filled with vibrant and comedic caricatures and we are looking for people willing to be enthusiastic, hilarious, and creative to bring this show to life!

Cat In The Hat

Vocal Range: Can be sung the octave up (F2 – F4)
Ages 15+ The essence of mischief, fun, and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. They are the host and emcee of the evening, playing many comic minor parts throughout the story, sometimes improvising with the audience, and is present in almost every scene. A strong singer with strong movement skills and comic ability is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination.

Jojo
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Sop (Ab3- C5)
Age:  Playable age 6-12 A young child. JoJo is a Who and is the only child of the mayor and his wife. A “Thinker” ­­ a smart child with a wild imagination. A little bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid whose “Thinks” get him into constant trouble. In the end, his Thinks save his planet. Strong singer/actor.

Horton The Elephant
Vocal Range: Tenor (A2 – F4)
Age:  15+ An elephant and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Gentle, big hearted, appealing. He is very imaginative and believes in the world’s goodness. He is responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is responsible for saving the planet Who and in doing so befriends JoJo. Strong singer/actor with good comedic timing.

Gertrude McFuzz
Vocal Range: Soprano (F3-F5)
Age:  15+ A bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Very self­conscious, shy, and nervous at first, she grows into a kind and caring protector. She is in love with Horton and does what she can to get his attention, including foolishly growing an enormous feathered tail. She is a bit naïve at times, but always is a voice of reason. Strong singer/actor with good movement skills and comedic timing.

Amayzing Mayzie (Duet w Mayzie)

Mayzie LaBird
Vocal Range: Soprano (G3 – D#5/Eb5)
Age:  18+ A bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Self­centered, selfish and vain. She manipulates anyone she can (especially Horton) into doing what she wants, but she isn’t all bad. Strong singer/actor with strong movement skills. Very comedic.

Sour Kangaroo
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano (F#3- F5)
Age:  15+  A kangaroo and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. She isn’t really sour at all: she’s just got a lot of attitude. She’s loud, brassy and a lot of fun. Is the main antagonist and the cause of all Horton’s trouble. A strong singer/actor with good comic ability and soulful singing.

Mr & Mrs Mayor
Vocal Range: Tenor (D3-E4) & Mezzo Soprano (A3-A4)
Age:  18+ The Mayor of Whoville and his wife. They try hard to raise their son JoJo in a difficult world. They may get aggravated with JoJo, but they love him dearly and try to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Strong singers/actors.

Bird Girls
Vocal Range: Soprano, Mezzo, and Alto
Age:  Any age Must be able to hold harmony.  Three sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. Self­centered “back up birds” who do whatever Mayzie does. They often act as storytellers, picking up where The Cat left off. A big presence throughout the evening. STRONG singer/movers with lots of soulful singing. Think trio in Little Shop/trio in Footloose. Strong at harmonizing!

Wickersham Brothers
Vocal Range: Tenor, Baritone, Bass (G#2/Ab2 – C5)
Age: Any age as long as you can sing harmony and dance. Three monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. These are not bad guys! They’re simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks, and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others’ expense. They side with the Sour Kangaroo in her campaign against Horton and cause more trouble for poor Horton. Strong singer/movers with lots of soulful singing.

General Gengus Khan Schmidt
Vocal Range: Baritone (B2-E4)
Age:  18+ A Who General who is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not mean; he honestly thinks he is doing the right thing and is making the world a better place. Strong singer/actor with comedic ability.

Age:  All Ages   The ensemble and Dance Team play a huge role in this show! Featured as Whos of Whoville, Jungle Creatures, Fish, Circus Creatures, Military Kids, Hunches, etc. Open to all ages. Some featured soloists include Young Kangaroo, The Grinch, Yertle The Turtle, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and Vlad Vladicoff
